Andddd...we are back at it again. Today was my first day of classes for my third semester at FIT.

My outfit for success = head-to-toe black with a foil scarf. Naturally.

EID MUBARAK

Eid marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic Holy Month of Sawm or fasting.

Eid is determined by watching the cycle of the moon. This year, Eid landed on July 28th. It is a religious holiday when Muslims would gather with their friends and family to celebrate by having a feast and doing good deeds. Aside from exchanging "Eid Mubarak!" (which means "Blessed Eid") and devouring samosas, my favorite thing about Eid has to be admiring my friends wearing gorgeous outfits. Below are several looks I collected from them!

What she's wearing in the picture is called a Salweer Kameez. A traditional attire worn by women (and sometimes men) in South Asia. Salweer means pants, which is usually worn under the dress, Kameez. There are different types of Salweer Kameez in beautiful designs. Browse through the gallery for more!

The gorgeous white dress is called a Kaftan. It  is worn by many different cultures. It has the silhouette of a robe or a tunic. Does she not look like an angel in it?

Here, Cynthia is wearing a Lengha, an embroidered maxi skirt. She paired it with a crop top, which is the way Lengha is traditionally worn. This outfit is perfect for special occasions, like Eid!

Of course, we didn't forget about the men! This young man in the picture is wearing a traditional Kurta, also known as Punjabi. A Kurta worn by females is called a Kurti. This long sleeve shirt is worn over pants and the hem ends around the knee.

BEYOND FASHION AT THE MET

On the evening of May 22nd, the College Group at the Metropolitan Museum of Art hosted Gowns and Glamour: A Fashionable Fete. Attendees, many of whom were fashion students from Parsons The New School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology, celebrated the opening of The Costume Institute's exhibition "Charles James: Beyond Fashion" and the new Anna Wintour Costume Center. 

Climbing the stoned stairs outside the museum with high heels and an elegant dress felt glamorous enough. As I entered the pool of well-dressed attendees, I found myself wonder-struck. I gazed at the purple ceiling above me in awe. Not of age to drink alcohol or wine, I made my way over to the soft drinks counter and ordered a glass of Sprite. I scooped up some strawberries on a napkin and headed to chat at one of the standing tables with Raiyan, the CEO of Fund My Fashion, who was also my date for the night.

We then split our ways, as he went ahead to explore the exhibition while I got crafty at P.S I Made This workshops. Following their instructions, I made a cute little bow and a feathered fan to match my plum dress. (Of course, I will have a tutorial to share with you my new learning.)

It was an amazing night spent mingling at the museum. I couldn't leave without taking a few snaps of some of the best dressed people I encountered through out the night.

MA MA MIA

Meet my mom. I call her May May , which means "mom" in Burmese. You can call her Miss Moe. 

My sister and I always borrow her clothes. (Did I mention all three of us have the same shoe size too?) I love it! So this week, I decided to dress her up in my clothes for a change! 

This look is inspired by the beautiful weather. A floral baby-doll dress, paired with a solid turquoise cardi, calls for Spring. We accessorized the look with colorful wedges, jade beaded necklace and a vintage bag. I won the bag for $11 on eBay last year. The price of the rest of the pieces are unknown, for they are either hand-me-downs, gifted or forgotten. I absolutely adore this look. She looks ready to go out for brunch!

I call this look "May meets May May." Here, she's wearing a draped blouse from BCBGMAXAZRIA with a blazer from H&M, fitted pants from Papaya, and black pumps from Tommy Hilfiger. We accessorized the look with a simple gold plated necklace from H&M and a gorgeous bag from Charles & Keith. And of course, nothing says confidence like wearing bold red lips. Bon chic!
